Celtics legend Paul Pierce spoke out about that on his No Fouls Given podcast, questioning why Brown hasn’t been mentioned in early MVP conversations.
“Everybody hates the Celtics,” Pierce said. “We all know this. Why isn’t he? Nobody had the Celtics third in the East without Tatum. He’s putting up 30 consistently.”
Pierce argued that perception, not performance, has held Brown back. Market fatigue and the Celtics’ reputation have created higher expectations for him, despite the reality of his elite production.
Currently, Boston sits just two games behind the New York Knicks for the No. 2 seed in the East—an impressive position considering the team’s injury challenges. Brown has not only filled the scoring void left by Tatum but also reshaped the team’s identity.
The Celtics entered the season bracing for turbulence, but they now sit 21-12 in the standings. Earlier this month, Brown tied Larry Bird for the longest streak of consecutive 30-point games in franchise history, with nine straight.
