Liverpool could make a ‘very interesting’ signing this month, says former club chief

Liverpool are already thought to be close to completing one deal in the 2026 January transfer window.

The winter window began with an Anfield exit as James Norris left for Shelbourne for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s first incoming of the month is thought to be close, with Joel Ordonez ‘one signature away’ from joining the Premier League champions.

How happy would you be if Liverpool sign Joel Ordonez?

A move is reportedly on the verge of being sealed!

The 21-year-old is a natural centre-back who has already earned 14 caps for his country.

Ordonez’s arrival would, including the injured duo of Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni, take Liverpool’s centre-back count up to five.

That would, on paper, potentially rule out any move for Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi this month.

Liverpool signing Marc Guehi would be very interesting

However, Patrick Montgomery, who was Liverpool’s Head Scout until 2024, thinks it would be ‘very interesting’ if the Reds signed Guehi.

Speaking to The Breakdown, he said: “I think to be honest, he’s definitely improved. I think he’s been somebody that’s taken a step away from one of the bigger clubs that he’s come through the youth system of.

“He’s obviously become now an internationally recognized player. Somebody that I think when teams look at him, he’s Premier League proven.

“He’s played a lot of games now at a very high level. I think he’s shown what his attributes are, and I think for a club like Liverpool, for any of the bigger clubs, he’d be a very interesting prospect to bring in.”

Marc Guehi has his eyes on Real Madrid

While signing the Crystal Palace defender and Ordonez in the same transfer window would offer Liverpool plenty of cover in a department they are currently short in, it seems the player has other plans.

As he is out of contract at Selhurst Park this summer, foreign clubs can sign the stopper to a pre-contract already, while the Reds would have to pay a transfer fee this month.

And reports this week claim that Guehi will give ‘absolute priority’ to Real Madrid if they make further contact for him following an initial approach.

Bayern Munich are thought to be interested in the defender as well, and they too can agree a free transfer as early as this month.
