Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s heard about Enzo Maresca and Man Utd after leaving Chelsea

Enzo Maresca’s future is up in the air after an abrupt Chelsea end, but links to both sides of Manchester have picked up steam.

A day removed from his controversial Chelsea exit, there is plenty of buzz around where the 45-year-old will go next.

Long before his departure, Maresca had been tipped to succeed Pep Guardiola at Man City, with talks even taking place in recent months.

On Thursday, just hours after the news broke, it emerged that Maresca is keen on managing Man United if Ruben Amorim is cast aside.

An interesting possibility, and one that has been addressed by Fabrizio Romano.

What would you make of this, Chelsea fans?🤔

Fabrizio Romano on Enzo Maresca to Man United rumours

After United dropped points at home to Wolves, there were calls for Amorim’s removal. Then, when Maresca’s interest in United came to light, the rumour mill started spinning.

Romano was being bombarded with questions about the legitimacy of the links.

He said on The Here We Go Podcast: “Many people ask me about this Enzo Maresca links with Ruben Amorim’s job at Manchester United, in case Amorim is sacked at some point at Manchester United.

“Look, at this point, there are zero contacts between Manchester United and Enzo Maresca. I think this link is coming from the fact that Omar Berrada, who is now one of the most important faces in the Manchester United project, used to work at Manchester City and knows Enzo Maresca very well.

“But at this stage, from what I’m told, the only club who had real conversations with Maresca is Manchester City, not Manchester United.”

Maresca has shown he can take a team to the Champions League and will likely be a person of interest in every Premier League job hunt from now until his next appointment.

As it stands, though, he’s not close to a move to Old Trafford.

Enzo Maresca could come back to haunt Chelsea

We’re just a day removed from Maresca’s exit, and it’s already clear that he will be wanted for a job sooner rather than later.

If that is in England — especially if he goes to Man City — there’s every chance he will be a thorn in Chelsea’s side in the future.

One thing we know about the Italian is that he loves a big game, and he will see any clash with his former side as exactly that.

We don’t know yet who will succeed Maresca, but they will have their work cut out for them in future matchups with the former Chelsea boss.
