Liverpool Women announce first January signing to aid relegation battle

Liverpool FC Women have completed the signing of Alice Bergstrom from BK Hacken of Sweden.

The 22-year-old joins the Reds for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance and work permit, after helping her former team to the Damallsvenskan title in November.

A versatile performer, Bergstrom can operate anywhere from full-back to winger on her preferred right-hand side.

She made eight assists and scored three goals last season as she helped Hacken to the top division title in her home country. In Europe she started both legs as Hacken beat Internazionale 1-0 on aggregate in the last 16 of the Europa League in November.

Her two seasons at Hacken followed a similar stint with fellow Swedish top division side Djurgarden IF preceded by a spell in the Swedish women’s championship with Alvsjo AIK.

Bergstrom becomes the first addition of the January window for Gareth Taylor’s team and put pen to paper on a deal at the AXA Melwood Training Centre following the completion of her medical on Merseyside.

She told Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m really excited, I’ve been waiting a long time so it’s nice to be here. I’m really impressed by everything, the pitches are so nice here, and I think I’m going to be fine here.”

Speaking about the playing style LFCW fans could expect from her, she added: “A lot of speed and power, I like to do one v ones and make a lot of crosses into the box.

“I’ve always played like a winger but this year I’ve played more like a full back so I can play both.”

Bergstrom has some friendly faces to help her settle in at LFC with fellow Swedes Cornelia Kapocs and current top scorer Beata Olsson already well known to her.

“They talked so well about Liverpool, the city and the club, it made me more excited to come here,” she said.

“The picture I got is that it’s very friendly and everyone gets along so good, and they’re having a really nice time. That’s important to me. You have to be happy outside of the football pitch as well.”

After her ‘amazing” title win with Hacken, Bergstrom earned a first call up to the senior Sweden squad for the Nations League bronze medal game against France, having previously been a regular with the U23 squad.

Bergstrom will wear the number 25 shirt for Liverpool for the rest of the 2025-26 campaign.
