Knicks receive positive injury update on Landry Shamet

New York Knicks received encouraging news as Landry Shamet moves closer to returning from a shoulder injury.

New York Knicks could soon get a boost for their second unit as Landry Shamet moves closer to a return. The veteran guard has been out while rehabbing a dislocated shoulder, but signs around the team suggest he may be back on the floor within the next few weeks.

Shamet suffered a shoulder injury last season as well, but this time the issue is believed to be less serious. According to the New York Post, the 28-year-old has already returned to basketball activities and is taking part in shooting drills. He has not yet been cleared for contact, but the progress has given the Knicks optimism.

Still, Shamet is taking a careful approach. As a shooter, shoulder health is critical, and he knows rushing back could create bigger problems later. Before the Knicks' 134-132 road loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Shamet spoke about the challenge of rehabbing an injury he has already experienced.

“You never really know. I had a lot of confidence in the rehab I did last year, and I was able to start doing things sooner in the rehab process than I kind of expected this time,” Shamet said. “So, if anything, that kind of just reassured the importance of rehabbing right and taking care of things. That’s really the biggest thing that gave me confidence. In the middle of it, though, there’s a lot of other stuff going on and you don’t really know until — you know, trust our doctors, talk to them and get all the information you need.”

Before the injury, Shamet was carving out an important role off the bench. He averaged 9.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in just over 20 minutes per game, giving the Knicks much-needed spacing and shot-making with the second unit.

His efficiency stood out, as he hit 45.2 percent from the field and 42.4 percent from three.
