‘Everyone wrote them off…’ – Micah Richards astonished with what he’s seen from Leeds United

Micah Richards Leeds United

Leeds United kicked off the New Year in the best way possible as they maintained their form from the last few weeks. Heading into their game against Liverpool, the Whites knew the task at hand.

Holding Arne Slot’s side twice in the space of a few weeks was always going to be a challenge. However, they knew this was going to be a much different Reds side, they had changed much from the team that threw away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 at Elland Road.

Leeds were also in great form, going into that game five game unbeaten after turning the corner following the loss to Manchester City at the Etihad.

Micah Richards convinced by Leeds United after Liverpool game

Daniel Farke surprised everyone on Thursday night, with a more cautious and conservative approach at Anfield. Leeds were able to keep the home side out for 90 minutes despite conceding some dangerous chances. Micah Richards, who was on the panel covering the game, says everyone wrote Farke and Leeds off, but they are now one of the hardest teams to beat:

“I think it’s been magnificent, if you look at the games, Chelsea, Liverpool, Brentford, Palace, all of these games you’re thinking on paper, get a few draws if you want, maybe one win and you’ve done your job but to go through that and get the amount of points that Leeds have when everyone wrote them off and I think its because maybe Calvert-Lewin early in the season wasn’t scoring, now he’s taking those chances.

“With Leeds, I don’t like the way everyone talks about them, how they’re a set-piece team, they’re hard to beat.

“Yes, they were hard to beat tonight, but they also can play, with an energy and rhythm… they are a really good team to watch, especially at home as well.”

Whites are one of the most in-form teams in the league

What Leeds have been doing these past few weeks is no fluke; they currently hold one of the longest current active unbeaten streaks in the Premier League. And most of the results have come against top half opponents too.

No team can beat Chelsea and Crystal Palace and hold Liverpool to a draw twice on a lucky streak. Daniel Farke has coached well, and the players have been performing brilliantly. If the team continues at this rate, then they should be able to survive relegation in the second half of the season.
