The football transfer market never rests, and the start of 2026 has already seen a notable move in the Middle East. Al Wahda, a competitive club in the UAE Professional League, have strengthened their squad ahead of the new season.

The UAE league has grown in quality over the past decade, attracting experienced international players looking to continue their careers in a competitive yet less physically demanding environment compared to Europe.

Clubs in the league are keen to blend domestic talent with experienced professionals who can make an immediate impact. Al Wahda’s latest signing fits this pattern perfectly.

The team’s management emphasized that the move is part of their long-term strategy to improve squad depth and overall performance. The addition comes after the player had recently left another overseas club, giving him the freedom to choose the next chapter in his career carefully.

This signing is seen as an opportunity for Al Wahda to gain leadership, goal-scoring experience, and international pedigree in a league that has been steadily increasing in competitiveness.

Al Wahda have officially onfirmed the signing of Belgian striker Christian Benteke, formerly of Liverpool and Crystal Palace. Benteke, 35, has had a prolific career in Europe, scoring 86 goals in the Premier League and earning 45 caps for Belgium between 2010 and 2022.

Born in Kinshasa, DR Congo, Benteke moved to Belgium with his family in 1993. He started his professional career at Genk before moving to Standard Liège and eventually making the jump to England with Aston Villa in 2012.

Liverpool secured his services in 2015 for £32.5 million, making him their second most expensive signing at the time. Benteke scored 10 goals in 42 appearances during his single season at Anfield, including memorable strikes in the Premier League and FA Cup.

Despite showing flashes of brilliance, he struggled to fully integrate into Jurgen Klopp’s tactical setup, which ultimately led to his departure. After stints at Crystal Palace and MLS side DC United, Benteke is now ready for a new challenge at Al Wahda.

The cub posted on their official X account, “Al Wahda Football Company announces the completion of the signing of Belgian professional Christian Benteke, as part of the club’s plans to meet the team’s needs and strengthen the factors for success in the upcoming phase. The Board of Directors welcomed the player to the Home of Champions, wishing him every success with the team.”

“For his part, Benteke expressed his happiness at joining Al Wahda, affirming his determination to give his best and contribute to achieving the club’s ambitions and the aspirations of its fans.”

The striker will bring his wealth of experience and goal-scoring prowess to the UAE, providing a boost both on and off the pitch as Al Wahda look to compete at the top of the league.
