Alan Shearer Leeds United
A few months ago, no one would have tipped Leeds United to survive in the Premier League. The Whites were in the relegation zone at a point, with Daniel Farke on the brink of being sacked.
Leeds have had an up and down season in the Premier League; they began well picking up a few huge results at home. Then in a few months in the campaign, things started going South. Fans complained about team selection and Farke’s tactics.

When the media reported that the German would be sacked before December, something changed. In the second half of the defeat to Manchester City, Farke threw caution to the wind and brought on an extra defender and a striker. The 3-5-2 became the blueprint for the run of games.
The Whites went on a long stretch of games without losing, recording huge results including wins over Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
Alan Shearer gives verdict on Leeds United after Liverpool game
Leeds’ first game of 2026 was at Anfield against Liverpool. Not many gave them a chance to spring a result away from home, as many felt that their previous encounter at Elland Road should have been won by the Reds. Farke got his tactics spot on, as he frustrated Arne Slot’s side throughout the 90 minutes, limiting their chances to score. Leeds eventually left with a point after a 0-0 draw.
After the result, many were convinced that the Whites were a serious team to respect. That includes Alan Shearer, who admits he never expected Leeds to leave Anfield with a point:
“With Leeds going to Anfield, I thought Liverpool would win against Leeds but a really good performance and a good point.”
Farke’s men have now gone six games without a defeat and have distanced themselves from the relegation zone.

Premier League safety is on course
Opening the new year with a huge result away from home is one things, but Leeds are now seven points above the relegation zone. This is a huge turnaround from months ago when the Whites were on a losing streak.
Daniel Farke and the players are doing a great job and deserve all the credit. Now, the focus is one getting more points on the board for the second half of the season.
