Warriors Making Important Jonathan Kuminga Decision vs Thunder

As the Golden State Warriors find themselves in a tough spot from an availability standpoint, the team is expected to utilize the veteran forward Jonathan Kuminga for the first time since December 18.

The report from ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel comes just hours after the Warriors decided to rule several key players out.

The Warriors will roll without Jimmy Butler, Seth Curry, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and De'Anthony Melton against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Trayce Jackson-Davis and Al Horford are both on the injury report as well, but they are on pace to be active for the night.

When Was the Last Time Jonathan Kuminga Played?

Kuminga's last appearance was against the Phoenix Suns on December 18. At the time, he came off the bench for just nine minutes of action.

During that short shift, Kuminga went 1-5 from the field to score two points. He also had four rebounds and one assist. He was inactive for the following game before collecting five-straight DNPs.

Before that, Kuminga was out of the lineup for three games in a row.

The Warriors' relationship with their homegrown veteran has taken a hit over the past year. This past summer, Kuminga became a restricted free agent. The former first-round pick had a hard time agreeing to terms on Golden State's offers.

While there was a long stand-off, Kuminga and the Warriors struck a new deal before the deadline. Kuminga landed a two-year deal worth over $45 million. The second season on the contract is a team option

Since the Warriors have a trade restriction until January 15, many viewed the first few months of the NBA season as a final trial period for Kuminga and the Warriors. While Kuminga seemed comfortable in the beginning, starting in the first 12 games, it's clear he has fallen out of the Warriors' rotation.

Friday's action will be an opportunity for Kuminga to bounce back. If it doesn't help him earn more minutes moving forward, then the game could serve as another chance to showcase his skills to an interested trade suitor.

In 18 games this season, Kuminga has averaged 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.
