Steve Kerr explains why Warriors shouldn't go all-in for a superstar trade

The Warriors coach is mindful of several teams' lack of assets, and he doesn't want Golden State to follow their path.

The Golden State Warriors are in serious win-now mode at this point in their timeline. As their dynasty is coming to an end, the Dubs are aiming to get another championship with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler leading the charge.

But as much as they want to go all in, Steve Kerr is fully mindful of the repercussions of it. And in a potential star hunting for Golden State, he tries to be cautious and aware of how several teams in the league have no assets left on their shelves.

“All you have to do is look at some of these teams out there that have given up the world for a star player and now they’re looking around like the Clippers, no picks," the Warriors coach said on the Tom Tolbert Show. "Phoenix, no picks. Milwaukee, no picks.

"You can really paint yourself into a corner if you’re risky and irresponsible.”

The Warriors currently have all of their own future first-round picks, except for the 2030 selection. They can use it for a deal to acquire a star and give themselves stronger contention odds.

But based on Kerr's comments, it seems that the Warriors will operate safely. He and Golden State might not make a move unless it would guarantee them the best title chance over any other team.

Not to mention, any major trade could include either Green or Butler for salary-matching purposes.

As the Dubs are struggling to get over the hump this year with an 18-16 record, time will tell if they'll be compelled to pull the trigger and release most of their draft assets to give themselves the best shot to win it all.
