New York Knicks dropped a disappointing 111-99 loss to the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden, prompting boos from fans. Head coach Mike Brown took full responsibility for the team’s poor performance, admitting he was booing himself too.
New York Knicks have been one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference this season, but their recent games have left fans frustrated. After a narrow loss to the San Antonio Spurs on New Year's Eve, the Knicks fell to the Atlanta Hawks 111-99 on Friday at Madison Square Garden, and boos rained down from the crowd.
Head coach Mike Brown did not shy away from the criticism, taking full responsibility for the performance.
"It's just how we played. I was booing myself, inside I was like, 'Boo Mike, you stink,' so they have a right to boo me," Brown said. "Everybody else, especially if we are playing the way we are playing, starting with how we guard the ball, and not getting back in transition. It's tough to stomach because you're not giving yourself a chance."
The Knicks struggled early, scoring just 17 points in the second quarter and falling behind Atlanta. Despite a push in the fourth, the Hawks’ lead proved too large to overcome. Fans were vocal in their disappointment, reflecting the team’s rare poor performance against a Hawks team in free fall.
Brown’s reaction shows accountability and leadership. He is focused on correcting mistakes and expects the same from his players. "It's tough to stomach, but it's about making adjustments and being better next time," he concluded.
