Arsenal are top of the Premier League with Mikel Arteta's side four points clear of Manchester City in second
With 19 games played, the Gunners have racked up 45 points with 14 wins and three draws. Manchester City are their closest challengers with 41 points on the board.
Aston Villa are six points behind in third but lost to Arteta’s side at the Emirates Stadium in midweek. Reigning champions Liverpool are all but out out the face as they sit 12 points behind Arsenal as they struggle to accommodate all of their new signings.
Arsenal had a hugely-impressive summer transfer window with several of their signings making a big impact in North London. There are not too many places in the squad that need significant improvement.
However, reports from Spain have indicated how the Gunners are keen to sign one of the top young players from La Liga.
According to Fichajes, Arsenal are preparing a formal offer of £70m to try and convince Real Madrid to part ways with young star Arda Guler.
The Gunners are said to be “highly aggressive financial strategy” for the Turkish international as they admire his versatility to play in attacking midfield and on the wing. He has had minutes for Madrid this season but is not a regular starter.
Manager Xabi Alonso is a big fan of the player and would be resistant to selling him and is said to have complete faith that he will become an important player for the Spanish giants.
The report that Arsenal believe he could make a huge impact for them, as it noted: “Arsenal believes that signing a player of this calibre would significantly improve their chances of dominating the English league and shining in Europe's premier competition.”
Speaking about potential January business, Arteta said on Friday: “We are open to every option. Obviously if we can find a solution that is short, medium and long, it’s always much better because it gives you stability and you don’t have to constantly start a process with a new player, but let’s see what happens, let’s see what the news is in the next few weeks and we’ll try to make the right decision.”
Guler has been with Madrid since 2023 and is under contract with the Spanish club until 2029. He has made 86 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing 18 assists.
