**Jeremie Frimpong admits he struggled with a ‘rocky’ start to his Liverpool career.**
Frimpong arrived from Bayer Leverkusen with a largely blemish-free injury record but sustained two hamstring problems in the space of three months.
He limped out of the Reds’ Premier League opener with Bournemouth before suffering a recurrence away to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.
But the Netherlands international has enjoyed a belated return to form with several eye-catching displays for Arne Slot’s side during the festive period.
And Frimpong concedes that his opening months at Anfield were challenging due to the rare situation of finding himself sidelined for prolonged periods.
He said: “It was really, really tough because, touch wood, I’m not really the type of guy that gets injured.
“So it was really difficult for me to deal with, but I had my family around me.
“I could say it’s been a rocky start. But now I’m healthy, I feel good so I’m happy.
“It’s part of the game. Injuries happen to people and I guess it was just my turn.”
Frimpong credits pilates with putting his recovery back on track as he adapts to life in the Premier League, having started at Manchester City’s academy.
A turbulent start to life on Merseyside has been eased by the arrival of former Leverkusen sparring partner Florian Wirtz, who followed several weeks later.
“When I heard he was coming, it put a smile on my face,” added Frimpong.
“Because we basically started our Leverkusen career together and we’re starting our Liverpool career together as well.
“We talk, obviously, but sometimes we stay at home. Sometimes we will link up, go to town, go to a restaurant, do normal things.
“Like I said in plenty of interviews: if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have won a treble with Leverkusen.
“We know how good he is and to see him doing it now, this is just the start.
“There’s plenty more to come from him.”
