Former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has stunned fans by launching a music career. Diaz, who joined Bayern Munich last summer, has released a song called 'La Promesa', which translates as 'The promise'.

The song has been released alongside Juanda Iriarte and Nelsen, who are two of the leading artists and exponents of champeta, which is an Afro-Colombian music genre and dance originating from the Caribbean coast.

In his musical debut, the Premier League-winning star sings of the promise he made to his parents of buying them a house for them and helping them escape their old neighbourhood.

Diaz was keen to avoid any subtext with his lyrics stressing just how grateful he is for his career as a professional footballer.

"Thank you, God, For giving me the blessing of playing football," Diaz sings, adding lines such as: "And being able to fulfil the promise I made to my parents And to my whole family, amen."

As 2025 came to a close, Diaz had a message for his fans on Instagram as he announced his new single. He wrote: "I close the year with gratitude. To God, for guiding my every step, giving me strength when things got tough, and never abandoning me.

"To my family, thank you from the bottom of my heart. For always being there, through the sacrifices, the difficult moments and every dream that seemed unattainable.

"None of this would be real without you. Every effort makes sense when you can give back to your loved ones at least a fraction of what they did to help you succeed. This song comes from the bottom of my heart, from the most sincere gratitude for what we have built together."

He added: "This is the result of a long journey of faith, work and love. A journey where God has worked in a great way and where my family has fought with me and for me.

"Everything I am and everything I have is thanks to that. Thank you, God. Thank you, family. Thank you, Nelsen Music and Juanda Iriarte, for believing, accompanying the process and making this project a reality, which is called: 'La Promesa'".

The video for the song features Diaz singing in his home while clips of goals he has scored for Barranquilla FC, Junior de Barranquilla, Porto, Liverpool and Bayern are spliced in.

Diaz also explained why he decided to launch a side career. He said: "Music is one of my hobbies and a way of expressing myself from the heart, something I do with great love and respect for the art. This project was born out of passion, from enjoying the process and connecting with you from another place."
