Liverpool join Man United in race to sign Premier League midfielder

Liverpool travel to the capital on Sunday to face Fulham in the Premier League.

The reigning champions currently sit fifth in the top flight standings, having improved drastically in recent weeks after a dismal run of form throughout October and early November.

Arne Slot’s side dropped as low as 11th in the Premier League table at one stage, but they are now firmly in the hunt for Champions League qualification and could even still challenge for the title.

Away from the action, it has emerged that Liverpool have joined one of their fiercest rivals in the race to sign an in-demand midfielder.

As per CaughtOffside, Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba.

The Cameroon international was the subject of intense interest from there Red Devils last summer, but the Manchester outfit ultimately failed in their pursuit of the player.

It is claimed that Baleba, 22, could cost as much as £100 million, despite having played fewer than 100 times for the Seagulls.

Baleba joined Brighton from French side Lille back in 2023 and has since established himself as a key player for the south coast side.

He is contracted to Brighton until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but it appears that the player is attracting serious interest from elsewhere.

Fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and German champions Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the midfielder, who has been capped 12 times by Cameroon one the international stage.

The report suggests that Brighton have received multiple enquiries for Baleba lately, with some clubs attempting to sign the player this month.

It is claimed, however, that Brighton will not entertain offers for the player this month, however he isn’t realistically expected to play for the south coast side beyond the end of the current campaign.
