Russell Westbrook may be one of those players who is appreciated more when his time in the NBA has long since passed.
In this era, Russ has plenty of detractors. But when you appreciate his career in its totality, it's clear that there has never been another player quite like Westbrook.
He set a record on Friday night to help make that case. Westbrook has now scored the most points by any point guard in NBA history.
He had to pass Oscar Robertson to do it.
Robertson's career total is 26,710 points. Westbrook is now climbing past that.

Of note, Stephen Curry has scored 26,103 points. He could eventually catch Russ.
Chris Paul is fourth all-time in this stat, at 23,058. Damian Lillard is fifth at 22,598.
Westbrook is in the late stages of his career. This offseason, he remained a free agent for a long time before eventually coming to terms with the Sacramento Kings.

Even this season, though, Westbrook has had his special moments, showing he can still get triple-doubles or put up huge totals on a given night in rebounds or assists.
And he could always put the ball in the basket, from the first moments he stepped into the league as an athletic marvel just flying down the lane toward the hoop.
Westbrook is set to end his career as a triple-double magician who also scored the most or second-most points of any point guard to ever play the game.
That'll go down as quite the legacy.
