Enzo Maresca will not struggle to find his next job after leaving Chelsea, according to Alan Shearer. The Italian's Stamford Bridge exit was announced on New Year's Day.

Maresca spent 18 months in charge of the Blues and won the Conference League and the Club World Cup during his tenure. The parting of ways comes weeks after Maresca made unusual, vague comments suggesting he did not feel supported. It is claimed that Maresca told Chelsea he had held talks over the possibility of joining Manchester City when Pep Guardiola departs. The 41-year-old previously enjoyed two spells at City and worked under the Catalan coach.

Whether it be a job at City or elsewhere, Shearer believes that Maresca will not be without work for long. The former Newcastle striker is not sure what size club will plump for the coach, however.

"His time at Chelsea should be viewed as a successful spell for Maresca," Shearer told Betfair. "They beat the best team around last year in PSG; he out-coached the Coach of the Year.

"They won the Conference League, which you'd expect, but not many thought they'd go to the Club World Cup and win. He’s in and around the top four, so for me, he's done a really good job.

"He’ll leave with his stock high. I don't think he'll struggle to get another job because of the work he’s done at Chelsea and Leicester.

"Whether he gets one of the big ones remains to be seen. There's been talk about City, hasn't there, but it depends on if Pep Guardiola decides to leave and when, but he won't struggle for a job in England or abroad."

Calum McFarlane will be in the Chelsea dugout this weekend as caretaker boss. The academy coach required his work pass to be changed just to gain entry to the first-team building as he prepares to take charge of his first Premier League match.

McFarlane was introduced individually to a handful of people before meeting the whole squad on Friday morning. He had been in charge of the Blues' Under-21s since joining from Southampton in July and has been impressed by captain Reece James, following his latest job change..

"He's been a real leader in the group and supported the staff and the players," the caretaker said. "You can't ask for any more. It just seems like a real focus for getting the best performance we can on Sunday."
