San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is set to miss the upcoming game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The 21-year-old French All-Star is listed as out for Saturday’s matchup due to left knee soreness.

Wembanyama suffered a slight left knee hyperextension with 10:32 left in the Spurs’ 134–132 win over New York on Wednesday after getting tangled up with the Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns and Jordan Clarkson while fighting for an offensive rebound.

However, speaking to the media after the game, Wembanyama expressed optimism about returning as early as the last matchup against the Indiana Pacers on Friday, although he is now set to miss his second straight game.

“I’m feeling good, just sore,” Wembanyama said postgame. “I was close to coming back into the game, but they had to hold me back.”

“I expect to be back next game. I’m not sure what [the medical staff] expects,” he added.

The Spurs couldn’t be more serious about managing Wembanyama’s health. The French star notably missed 12 consecutive games because of a left calf strain, prompting the team to play him as a reserve for a handful of games.

This season, Wembanyama is averaging 24.3 points, 11.7 boards, and 3.4 assists in 21 games.
