Man United are assessing transfer targets with the January transfer window now open

The January transfer window will offer Ruben Amorim and Manchester United the chance to strengthen and add to the Red Devils squad, as the Portuguese hopes to lead his side back into the Champions League this campaign.

United currently sit in the top six but the club hierarchy will be aware that amidst the congested nature of the division, their position could quickly be lost if they do not take advantage of any transfer opportunities which may come available this month.

Man United ‘monitoring’ £70m Brazilian wonderkid

According to reports by Diario AS journalist Eduardo Burgos, Man United are ‘monitoring’ 19-year-old Brazilian winger Rayan following a highly impressive 2025 with Vasco da Gama.

The Red Devils are not the only club reported to be interested, as AC Milan are in the race alongside ‘several’ Saudi Arabian clubs. Barcelona also hold a historical interest in the wonderkid and have been linked on multiple occasions in the past, reviving their interest recently according to Tribuna.

A deal for Rayan would be ‘complicated’, however, as he recently signed a new long-term contract until 2028 which includes an €80million (£70m) release clause. A move is ‘expected to progress’ next summer.

Primarily a right-winger, the Brazil Under-20 star has also spent a fair amount of time starting through the centre for Vasco da Gama and is displaying impressive versatility at this early stage in his career. He has scored 20 goals from 57 appearances in the 2025 Brazilian season and it comes as no surprise that he is attracting attention from elsewhere.

‘Complicated’ Rayan deal latest as United target multiple positions

Diario AS journalist Burgos wrote on X: “AC Milan, Manchester United and several Saudi Arabian clubs are monitoring Rayan's situation. Vasco da Gama refers to its buyout clause, valued at 80M€. A move now seems more than complicated. It is expected to progress by summer.”

United have been linked with a range of transfer targets in the build-up to the January window, as Amorim’s squad continues to be pushed to the limit by injuries and players away on international duty. Captain Bruno Fernandes is currently on the side-lines and with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo away at AFCON, the Red Devils have looked short of creativity at times in recent matches.

A move for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo appears unlikely as the 25-year-old closes in on a £65m transfer to Manchester City, but Rayan could prove a younger, intriguing alternative to the Ghanaian. His goalscoring prowess will certainly have been noted as beneficial to Amorim’s system, and the 19-year-old could prove an effective understudy to Mbeumo if he were to arrive at Old Trafford in 2026.
