Coach Mike Brown said, “I was booing myself... They have a right to boo me.”

The New York Knicks couldn’t handle the Atlanta Hawks and suffered a 111-99 loss on Friday. It was a terrible outing by the Knicks, as they shot 21.4% from beyond the arc. The team only made nine shots out of their 42 attempts from deep.

Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 24 points on 43.5% shooting. But even the team’s best player wasn’t exempt from the shooting struggles from deep, as he shot 1-for-8. It was an off night for the entire team, and the fans turned on coach Mike Brown for New York’s subpar outing.

During the game, Brown heard boos from the crowd at Madison Square Garden directed at him. After the contest, he addressed the reception he received from the fans.

“It’s how we played,” Brown said. “I was booing myself. Inside, I was like ‘Boo Mike, you stink.’ They have a right to boo me and everyone else… especially if we’re playing the way that we’re playing.”

Brown also addressed the Knicks’ poor shooting performance. According to the coach, he thought the team had good looks from beyond the arc. He credited the Hawks’ defensive pressure on their shooters.

Following that, he spoke about the lack of defensive pressure from New York.

“If the shot’s not falling, where else are we going to hang our hat? It has to be on the defensive end of the floor, and we didn’t get it done throughout most of the game tonight,” Brown said.

The Knicks have lost two in a row and are now 23-11. Their next game is on Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers.
