Houston Public Works on how to 'Protect Our Pipes' (cw39.com) ā Houston Public Works is urging residents to change everyday habits to prevent sewer clogs and costly overflows in neighborhoods across the city. Officials say about 70% of Houston sewer overflows come from fats, oils, grease, and wipes going down drains, and theyāre asking people to toss cooled grease, use sink strainers, and only flush the ā3 Pās.ā
2. Harris County warns of scam texts claiming unpaid tickets or toll fees (cw39.com) ā If you live in Houston or Harris County, officials are warning about scam texts claiming you owe traffic tickets or toll fees and pushing you to a fake District Clerk website. The office says it never texts for payments or collects traffic or toll fines, and victims are urged to cancel affected cards and call the Sheriffās Office Financial Crimes Unit.
3. Midtown-area crash pushes Houston METRO bus from overpass onto Highway 288 (fox26houston.com) ā A Houston METRO bus crashed with another vehicle near the McGowen overpass, sending the bus off the overpass onto the side of Highway 288 in Midtown. Twelve passengers and the driver are being evaluated for non-life-threatening injuries, while one person in the other vehicle was also hurt and the scene remains under investigation.
4. 2 arrested, accused of attempted burglary at Best Buy store in Round Rock (kvue.com) ā A Houston resident has been identified by Round Rock police as one of two people arrested after an attempted break-in at a Best Buy near Austin early Saturday. Officers say they stopped a vehicle matching witness descriptions, found burglary tools and broken glass, and used surveillance video to link the pair to the alleged attempted burglary while still working to confirm the second suspectās identity.
5. Houston Rockets jersey history No. 4 - Luis Scola (2007-12) (usatoday.com) ā Houston basketball fans get a nostalgic look at forward Luis Scolaās years with the Rockets, where he wore No. 4 and averaged solid scoring and rebounding numbers. The piece traces his path from Argentina and a Spurs draft pick to becoming a reliable contributor in Houston before his 2012 departure.
