JJ Redick criticized the Lakers' execution, saying they ran most of their ATOs incorrectly, struggled to use Jaxson Hayes effectively, and showed a frustrating lack of focus and engagement on the court.
The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 128-121 on Friday night, starting the new year on a high note. But for coach JJ Redick, the win wasn't perfect at all.

After Saturday's practice, Redick spoke about his team's lack of focus and attention to detail.
"We ran 12 ATOs last night, eight of which we didn't run correctly," he said. "We tried to run two of them again, still didn't run them correctly. One we tried to run a third time, didn't run that correctly.
"So, just a lot of slippage with execution," he added. "You know, you should be able to transfer 30 seconds of time delay from the clipboard to the court. So, that was kind of frustrating."
When asked if the mistakes were just a matter of forgetting plays, Redick replied, "I don't know. I don't know. I wasn't a guy that forgot plays, so..."

The Lakers coach also noted that Jaxson Hayes wasn't being used effectively.
"It's on everybody. You know, we tried to run an ATO for him, that was one of the ATOs we didn't run correctly," Redick noted. "There's opportunities for him to duck in at times, and he's not being active. There's opportunities for us to hit him when he does duck in and we're not hitting him.
"So, that to me, it comes down to: is he going to be active and engaged and assertive? I think the trust level from the passers builds off that. But I think we got to start the game trying to at least get him a couple of touches before the seven-minute mark."
The Lakers are 21-11 on the season, having won just two of their last six games. They'll face the Grizzlies again on Sunday for a rematch.
