Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign one of their long-term targets as Man City close in on a deal for Antoine Semenyo

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ‘increasingly confident’ of signing Manchester City forward Savinho in January as Antoine Semenyo’s move to the Etihad Stadium has been described as ‘all-but done’

Spurs and Chelsea were among the clubs linked with Semenyo, who has a £65m release clause in his contract at the Vitality Stadium.

However, while Spurs have missed out on Semenyo - the deal between City and Bournemouth could still stand to benefit Thomas Frank.

According to Caught Offside, Spurs are now more hopeful of signing Savinho as he is more likely to move on once Semenyo makes his move to City official.

A source told the outlet: “The Semenyo deal is all but done, and it’s likely we’ll see at least one City attacker leave as a result,. The main two candidates would be Savinho and Oscar Bobb.”

The report went on to confirm that Tottenham remain big admirers of Savinho and they have stayed attuned to his situation since the summer. Spurs wanted the Brazilian back in the last transfer window but Pep Guardiola did not want to lose the forward.

However, Savinho has had just 535 minutes of Premier League action this season, starting just five of City’s 19 games in the top flight. He has started in three of the club’s six Champions League outings so far.

With his game-time already limited, he is likely to face even tougher competition to get into the starting XI once Semenyo arrives. The Bournemouth star has been one of the Premier League’s stand-out stars this season and will likely only be making the move to City with some encouragement that he will get plenty of game-time.

Savinho is currently out with injury which could scupper Tottenham’s plan to sign the player as the forward had to come off during City’s 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

Spurs have themselves sanctioned a departure already this window with Brennan Johnson joining Crystal Palace in a deal worth £35m.

Speaking last week about potential transfer business in January, Frank said: "Any player we sign needs to be fully committed on the project. No doubt about that. Very important.

"Character for me, as I've said many times, is the most important thing. They need to buy into it so we are aligned.

"It makes it easier for me to say, 'Hey remember the bit I said about this...', then it's a little bit easier to have consequences."
