Celtics star makes eye-opening declaration after historic night vs. Clippers

Jaylen Brown played some of the best basketball of his life Saturday night against the Clippers, erupting for a career-high 50 points in a 146-115 victory for Boston.

The stellar outing helped the Celtics secure their third straight win and a 4-1 road trip that has Boston just a half-game behind the Knicks in the Eastern Conference. Brown has been front and center for that success for the Celtics this year and was not shy about voicing confidence in his play after the win.

“I feel like I’m the best two-way player in the game so I want to take on the challenge each and every night, try to help my team gets win,” Brown told Abby Chin of NBC Sports Boston in a postgame interview. “We have a tough schedule coming up so I’m going to try to keep it going.”

Brown currently ranks fourth in the NBA in scoring after posting 50 points against the Clippers. His 30.1 points per game average puts him behind just Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Tyrese Maxey in those rankings.

Joe Mazzulla made a point to praise Brown’s defense after the win while describing how he reacted to the performance.

“After the game, I just kind of thanked him,” Mazzulla told reporters in Los Angeles. “I thought that was an honor to be able to watch a performance like that. I thought his defense was tremendous from start to end, and I thought that was one of the most complete games that I have seen him play.”

Brown and the Celtics will look to keep their momentum going back in Boston on Monday night as they opened a four-game homestead against the Bulls.
