Jeremie Frimpong admits Liverpool did something last summer which put a big smile on his face

Jeremie Frimpong has been a great addition for Liverpool off the pitch, but now he is starting to prove why he is an excellent acquisition on the field too.

The Reds’ new signings had not exactly hit the ground running, but heading into 2026, fans are a lot more optimistic as they are really starting to come into their own.

Frimpong is one of these who is making more of an impact, with the Dutchman a real threat at right wing due to his pace.

Injuries had set him back before so fans were not able to see just how good he was, with all they could see being training videos where he looked full of positivity.

He is almost always smiling and he is definitely a good person to have around the club, but there was one thing Liverpool did in the summer that he admitted made him happier than ever.

Jeremie Frimpong was so happy when Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz

The Reds did a bit of a double swoop on Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, first signing Frimpong, before going back in for Florian Wirtz.

The latter was much harder to get over the line, but they managed it in the end, meaning they were both reunited after a short time apart.

As the closest of friends, Frimpong was delighted when he heard the news that the German would be joining him, with it putting a big smile on his face.

“I think me and Flo are really good boys, you know, that’s my boy,” he said as per the Liverpool Echo.

“So, when I heard he was coming, I put a smile on my face because we basically started our Leverkusen career together. And we’re starting our Liverpool career together as well.”

Both had different starts to their Liverpool careers for very different reasons but they are starting to kick on, with 2026 set to be a big year for the pair of them.

The duo excelled at Leverkusen as a number 10 and a right-back, but neither of them seem like they will be playing there for Liverpool under Arne Slot.

Wirtz’s best football has come when he is playing on the left, while Frimpong appears to be more of a winger than a full-back, meaning they make up two thirds of Liverpool’s attacks.

They both bring very different things either side of Hugo Ekitike too, meaning the Frenchman gets a variety of different chances, which is why he is performing so well.

They both have very bright futures ahead of them and playing together as best friends must be the greatest feeling in the world, so supporters will be hoping they can use this bond to good effect on the pitch.
