Rangers REACTION as Danny Rohl’s side haul themselves back into the title race with a comeback win of epic proportions
Latest news and transfer headlines surrounding Celtic and Rangers on Sunday afternoon
The fallout from yesterday’s Old Firm derby continues following Rangers’ impressive 3-1 comeback victory over Celtic at Parkhead.
Behind the scenes, transfer activity has kicked into gear with several names being linked with the two Glasgow giants, with plenty of arrivals and departures both expected over the coming weeks.
Here’s the latest news and transfer headlines surrounding both clubs:
Celtic outcast recalled by EPL giants ahead of Bundesliga loan move
Manchester City have recalled Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from his disappointing loan spell at Celtic - with the Premier League heavyweights in advanced talks to send him on loan to Bundesliga side FC Koln.
It’s understood the centre-back and last season EPL 2 Player of the Year will head to the German outfit for the second half of the campaign, with an option to buy and future buy-back clause included in the deal.
The Hoops outcast amassed just 64 minutes of competitive action during his short stint in Scottish football and will now fly to Germany to finalise his move to Koln.
According to the Scottish Sun, City were ‘inundated’ with transfer interest in the 20-year-old with a handful of EFL Championship sides said to be keen on signature, as well as Chelsea’s sister club RC Strasbourg in France.
However, Koln - who currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga - is his likely destination, with the player due to undergo a medical later today ahead of putting pen to paper.
Alfredo Morelos ‘pushes’ for Santos transfer exit
Former Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos is reportedly trying to break out of his contract with Brazilian fallen giants Santos over a major dispute about salary payments which could lead to him becoming a free agent.
It’s claimed the Colombia international, who called it quits after six years at Ibrox to join Santos in the summer of 2023 following the expiry of his deal, already considers himself free to hold talks with other clubs due to an alleged breach of contract from his parent club.
His spell in Brazil hasn’t turned out to be a successful move for the 29-year-old, who has managed just four goals in 20 games for the Sao Paulo-based club.
In July 2024, Morelos returned to his homeland to join Atletico Nacional on loan, notching 11 goals in 28 appearances to help them win a league and cup double. His deal was then extended for the 2025 season and he picked up two further winners’ medals after netting 21 times in 64 outings.
A fan favourite during his time in Govan, Morelos is still under contract with Santos until December 31 but sources in Brazil suggest that he has no intention of seeing out the duration of his deal.
Although it’s not official yet, it’s believed Morelos has already been in contact with the club to let them know his plans to terminate the deal due to “serious salary defaults”. Morelos feels he is within his rights to negotiate with other clubs due to the ongoing conflict.
FIFA will likely be forced to intervene with Santos expected to formally respond to the striker’s accusation. Various reports claim the debt that Morelos believes he is owed is close to £1 million, but that he has avoided dialogue with club officials so far.
The payments include wages and bonuses previously agreed upon by the club’s former management team. Santos are due to return to action on January 10 after their winter break, but Morelos won’t be in attendance at training next week.
