The Reds have suffered an unexpected blow before kick-off.
Liverpool are set to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon as they look to cement their place within the top four of the Premier League.
Momentum appeared to be building, but the Reds faltered on Thursday evening as they were held to a 0-0 draw against Leeds United in-front of a frustrated Anfield crowd.
Now, looking to get back on track, a trip to London awaits, to face a Fulham side that have been very up and down themselves this season.
The last five meetings between these two have been cagey affairs with just a single goal determining the result on several occasions.
Let’s hope Arne Slot’s men have what it takes this evening to change that narrative.
They will have to do that without Hugo Ekitike though.
The Frenchman, who has been in red-hot form for the Reds recently, is not featured in the matchday squad due to a fitness issue.
Speaking before the game, Arne Slot said:
“Alexander Isak has been out for a few weeks now. That has meant that Hugo had to play more minutes than he did throughout the whole season.”
“That has led to the fact that he has picked up a slight hamstring injury, because we have to play him more and more and more minutes.”
“For a player that’s his age and is not used to the Premier League completely, that has been a bit too much. So, that’s why he will be out for today and hopefully be back for the Arsenal game, but that’s definitely not sure yet.”
A big blow for Liverpool this afternoon, but a smart decision taken by Arne Slot to manage the Frenchman’s fitness after he has grown to be such an important part of the team.
The line-up for today’s game is: Alisson, Van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez, Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Bradley, Jones, Gakpo, Gravenberch.
