Michael Porter Jr. hints at his future with the Brooklyn Nets

Michael Porter Jr. states that he wants to stay with the Brooklyn Nets after the Trade Deadline, if the franchise wants so.

Brooklyn Nets star Michael Porter Jr. made it clear he’d like to remain with the franchise, even as trade speculation heats up around the 27-year-old forward ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

Porter, who’s been one of the league’s most efficient scorers this season, told that to the New York Post:

"If they want me here, I’d love to be here," Porter shortly said.

The comment comes amid rising chatter that some teams have expressed interest in acquiring Porter as a potent secondary scoring option.

Porter is in the fourth year of his five-year, $179 million contract, and is putting up strong numbers for Brooklyn, averaging 25.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists this season while shooting nearly 50% from the field and over 40% from three.

Brooklyn currently sits near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and has struggled offensively as a team. Porter’s ability to score both inside and from deep has eased some of those issues, making him a potentially valuable long-term piece — whether the Nets push to build around him or leverage his value in return for future assets.
