Florian Wirtz has admitted he was surprised by his goal against Fulham being ruled onside, as he spoke about the Reds needing to “get better” still.
Liverpool’s No. 7 struggled to create opportunities against Fulham in the Reds’ 2-2 draw. However, he did make a difference in front of goal as he scored his second in a red shirt.
After Conor Bradley‘s mazy run resulted in Wirtz calmly finishing on his left foot, the 22-year-old thought he was offside, and so did the assistant referee.
Three minutes later, though, semi-automated offside technology declared him to be just onside.
After the match, Wirtz told Sky Sports: “I was sure it was offside so I didn’t even celebrate. I was happy that I scored but I’d rather take the three points.”
Liverpool’s press didn’t work in the first half

The 2-2 draw leaves Liverpool unbeaten in nine matches, but their recent two points against Fulham and Leeds were uninspiring for fans and, it seems, the players.
Wirtz was “not satisfied at all,” adding that “we need points and we wanted three points today.”
The point means Liverpool stay in fourth place, but are now eight behind Aston Villa in third.
“We know there’s no easy game in this league,” Wirtz added.
“The intensity we brought on the pitch in the second half was much better. We didn’t press them well in the first half but the second half was much better.”
Cody Gakpo thought he had won the game in injury time for the Reds, but Harrison Reed had other ideas, firing home a rocket in the 97th minute to secure a point for Fulham.

Liverpool’s No.7 commented: “The strike, there is nothing to say. It was unbelievable. You cannot save that ball. Normally, it doesn’t go in like this.
“The actions before could have been better, I’m not sure. It was from a throw-in, so we have to be better.
“Again, we are in a difficult situation because we drew two times. It’s not what we want, we want more. We have to get better but it’s still a process.”
The process sees them travel to Arsenal next, who are currently 14 points ahead of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.
