Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is confident that the Reds are heading in the right direction despite the late Harrison Reed wondergoal that flew past Alisson Becker at Craven Cottage.
Florian Wirtz had canceled out Harry Wilson's opener and then Gakpo scored what he thought was the winner, only for substitute Reed to slam the ball into the top corner from outside the penalty area.
"Yes, that's true, I thought that [his goal was the winner]," Gakpo admitted. "The moment I sat down on the bench, they scored. It's disappointing for us. We fought very hard in the second half, dominated at moments, and tried to create chances to get through.

"At the end, I scored in minute 95, they scored in minute 97 — a wonderful goal to be fair. Unlucky, unfortunate.
"This is a moment that can happen in a game. I was just sitting down so I did not see the moments before. I just saw him take a touch and shoot the ball into the top corner.
"I think if you are going to analyze the game, maybe we should have scored more goals or defended the two goals better. In the end, we should do much better.

"There were moments that we showed how good we were, but it is up to us to stay consistent and put in overall better performances. I'm sure the wins will come again."
Gakpo was deployed as a central striker with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike both injured, with Curtis Jones off the left and Dominik Szoboszlai from the right.
"As a forward player, you always want to score goals to help the team, so it's a plus for me," he added. "In the end, it's a team sport, and we didn't win, so I'm still disappointed."
One of the positives for Liverpool was the performance of Wirtz, who did well again and finished the chance set up by good work from Conor Bradley very confidently.

"The intensity we brought on the pitch in the second half was much better," Wirtz said on Sky Sports. "We didn't press them well in the first half, but the second half was much better.
"The strike, there is nothing to say. It was unbelievable. You cannot save that ball. Normally, it doesn't go in like this. The actions before could have been better, I'm not sure. It was from a throw-in, so we have ot be better.
"Again, we are in a difficult situation because we drew two times. It's not what we want; we want more. We have to get better, but it's still a process."
