Arsenal are looking to win the Premier League title this season under the guidance of Mikel Arteta

Arsenal have the chance to freshen up their ranks now the January transfer window is open for business. They also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well over the coming weeks if needed. The Gunners are hoping to win the Premier League title this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side have fallen short over recent years. They delved into the market over the summer to bring in the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke, among others. The London outfit may now look to further tweak their squad this winter.

Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri eyed by Chelsea

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal prospect Ethan Nwaneri has emerged on the radar of Chelsea. The teenager is being linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium. The report adds that the Blues are also keen to lure Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers to Stamford Bridge.

Nwaneri, 18, has been on the books of the Gunners for his whole career to date. He has risen up through their academy and has been a regular at various different youth levels. The England youth international made his first-team debut back in 2022 at the age of just 15.

The London-born man has since gone on to make 50 appearances in all competitions, 11 of which have come this season, and he has scored 10 goals. He is under contract until 2030 so Arsenal are under no immediate pressure to sell him anytime soon and can afford to wait for big money. The youngster isn’t always guaranteed regular minutes though under Arteta due to strong competition for his position from the likes of Madueke, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Arsenal should propose swap deal to Chelsea

Jorrel Hato’s switch to Chelsea hasn’t gone to plan and Arsenal should try and sign him as part of a swap deal if they are to sell Nwaneri. Myles Lewis-Skelly’s future is up in the air due to a lack of game time which means the Gunners would need to find a replacement if he left. Hato could be some solid competition and cover for Riccardo Calafiori at left-back.

At the age of 19, he still has bags of potential and a change of scene may be what he needs now after struggling to make an impact with the Blues. Arteta is a head coach who would be able to get the best out of him and unleash his talent. The defender is a Holland international with six caps to his name already and he broke into the senior team at Ajax before his transfer over to England.

Hato was a player who was ‘monitored’ closely by Arsenal last summer, as per CaughtOffside, with Liverpool also mentioned as potential suitors. However, they weren’t able to get him in the end and Chelsea won the race for his signature. Fast forward to now and he has featured only four times in the league this term and his move hasn’t worked out for him.

Now is the perfect time for the Gunners to rekindle their interest. Hato may feel that he has a point to prove after failing to settle at Chelsea. The search for Enzo Maresca’s successor is underway, with Liam Rosenior said to be a leading candidate.
