Curtis Jones admitted the final result was "hard to take" as Liverpool drew 2-2 with Fulham on Sunday.

The Reds again struggled to create clear chances at Craven Cottage, but goals from Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo earned Arne Slot’s side a second point to start 2026. Harry Wilson put Fulham ahead early, scoring against his former club with the hosts’ first meaningful chance, beating Alisson Becker. Wirtz then secured an equalizer after a lengthy VAR review just after halftime.

With attacking options limited due to injuries, Liverpool was unable to push further ahead, while Wilson nearly doubled Fulham’s lead when he hit the bar. The match ended in drama as Gakpo and Harrison Reed scored in stoppage time.

On the team's feelings after the game, Jones told the club's website: "In the first half, we had the ball a lot, we tried, and it didn't come off as much.

"At half-time, we spoke about that we've got to show more heart and things like that.

"That's what we went and did. We came back with two goals, and then they go and score a goal like that. It's hard to take."

On how it compared to the 0-0 draw against Leeds on New Year's Day, the 24-year-old added: "If you're giving away a lead, especially at a time like this when we need all our points, it's always hard. I definitely think it was a better game all round than the Leeds game, 100 percent.

"But as I said, we always want to come away with all three points, that's what we'll always try. It doesn't matter if we're playing against any team away, for the talent on the pitch and things like that, I feel like we should go and win games like that."

Jones also reflected on his versatile role during the game, having operated as a No. 8, winger, and No. 10. “I just want to help the team,” he said, highlighting the adaptability required of players amid injuries and absences.

"I've been used as a full-back, used off the right, I've been used as a No.10, a No.8, a No.6, a No.9. As long as I'm there and I can help the team, that's what I'll try to do.

"As I always say, if I look left and right in the changing room, I always see the talent around, so a lad who is going to come in and play eight, he's never going to be a downgrade.

"I'd never say he's better than me, but he will always have a quality, but in a different way for what the team needs. We made a change, we tried to bring all the lads in [who were] available, and it just wasn't quite enough. But we go again."

On heading into the Arsenal game nine games unbeaten, Jones added: "It's a big one, but all games are big. And I've said already, especially now when we need all our points. Arsenal is a huge, huge game; they are on a great run and, obviously, they are top of the league.

"Of course, the first game they played against us, we obviously won, so they'll be trying to get revenge on us. We're going there with our heads high, and we'll go and try to win."
