Seven Things We Learnt From Fulham 2–2 Liverpool

Fulham 2–2 Liverpool. What a moment, what a game. Fulham get justice for a ludicrous decision and terrific performance.

Here’s seven things we learnt from Fulham 2–2 Liverpool:

Reedy’s Reward

It dipped, it swerved, it nestled in the stanchion. Perhaps the best goal I have ever seen at the Cottage, and it couldn’t happen to a better bloke.

Harrison had a superb 22/23 and, in my opinion, there was no reason for him to be dropped from the a regular starting role, but despite that, Reedy stuck around, kept working hard, and his attitude never faulted.

I’ve maintained that Harrison has a place in this Fulham squad for a while – that’s why.

Today, Reedy got his reward.

Raul Jimenez – MOTM

My man of the match. Raul ran himself into the ground today. The Mexican fought for every loose ball, pressed at every opportunity, and won the most duels in the match today (8).

Raul was so unlucky to not get his reward when following up Harry Wilson’s dink, his interplay with Harry Wilson (again) – Top class.

If Raul was 22 years old, this fanbase would be pining over him. The most underrated striker in Fulham’s history does the business again.

After the Restart Issues Persist

The 20 minutes after the restart were the only time Fulham weren’t in control of the game. Fulham, yet again, were caught cold coming out the blocks.

That’s something that has proved to be a persistent issue for the Whites.

If Fulham want to be a side that continues to climb the table, that has to be fixed.

We cannot continue to sit on leads and get deeper and deeper in the early periods of second halves.

It happened against Chelsea, Villa, Tottenham, Burnley, and today – it can’t happen again.

Robinson the Difference Between Upper & Lower Mid Table

The boy is back in full flow.

Up and down all game long, Antonee Robinson kept Dominik Szoboszlai quiet all game and still single-handedly provided the width and main attacking threat for Fulham in a narrow Fulham side.

When Kevin came on, he linked up to great effect with Robinson too.

With Jedi, Fulham are a top half side. Without him, we are scraping survival – Robo is the difference maker.

Five Back Sucsess

Fulham controlled almost all of today’s game.

To open proceedings, we let Liverpool control the ball, but Silva’s side always looked the more comfortable. In possession too, we looked by far the more dangerous side.

The five at the back looked rigid and helped provide the defensive numbers to stifle the Scousers creative talents.

Our shape also allowed Wilson, Raul, Robinson and Smith Rowe the attacking license to play on the break.

With limited players available, today showed that against bigger sides, the five at the back certainly has a place in Marco’s tactical arsenal.

Perhaps it will be Liam Rosenior first test as Walham Green boss this week…

Midfield Two: Tempo Setters

Cairney controlled an industrious Liverpool midfield. TC dictated the tempo and helped Fulham look the most dangerous side, despite limited possession in the majority of today’s game.

Sasa Lukic, yet again, was the energetic, gritty midfielder partner Fulham need to partner a creative eight.

With an addition this month, all of a sudden, our midfield situation doesn’t look so bad after all.

Harry Wilson: The PL’s Hottest Forward

9 goal involvements in 19 games is elite numbers – Harry Wilson is in the form of his life this season.

There are no more superlatives I can give Harry Wilson. Direct, dynamic, composed in front of goal.

There is nobody more clinical in the Premier League than Harry Wilson. His first half finish – straight out the top draw. Harry’s movement – world class.

Harry makes things happen. In a Fulham team ravaged by unavailability, the Welshman has stepped up when we needed him most – that’s a man deserving of a new deal.
