Will Fred VanVleet play this season? Report reveals potential return for Rockets star

According to Marc Stein, the Rockets are not completely ruling out the possibility of Fred VanVleet playing in this 2025-26 season out of ongoing ACL recovery.

Although there is an expectation that Fred VanVleet will be out for the entire 2025-26 season due to a torn ACL injury, the Houston Rockets are reportedly not also dismissing the possibility that the veteran guard will be playing this year.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, VanVleet has been strongly attacking his ongoing rehabilitation in hopes of a possible return to the Houston lineup later in the season.

"The Rockets certainly won't be guaranteeing a return in 2025-26 after VanVleet's unfortunate knee tear during a team mini-camp in the Bahamas before training camp, but they also aren't completely ruling it out, either," Stein wrote.

"Word is VanVleet is working as hard as possible in his rehab from the injury to at least put a late-season return on the table."
