Birth place: San Diego, United States of America

After his 34-point explosion to lead the Miami Heat's 125-106 blowout home victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, Powell is firm about his candidacy to be in Los Angeles for next month along with the best basketball players in the world.

"I definitely have made the case," he said. "I’ve learned last year not to get caught up in whether I make it or not. I want to make it. I think I deserve to make it. My peers around the league, after games and things like that, are telling me that I’m an All-Star and that I should be there.

"Hopefully, it happens for me this year."

Powell has been on a sizzling run this year, averaging career highs from most categories in points (24.4), rebounds (3.8) and assists (2.7) while shooting 48.8 percent from the field in 31 appearances.

Behind his scoring outburst, the Heat have remained competitive despite the critical absence of Tyler Herro all season long. With the win over New Orleans, Miami improved to 20-16 and is just 2.0 games away from the East's 4th seed.

Based on the first fan voting returns of this year's All-Star Game, Powell was ranked No. 18 in the Eastern Conference with over 100,390 votes.

More than personal numbers, Powell aims to maintain the Heat's winning momentum to convince fans, media and coaches to support his first career All-Star nod.

"For me, the goal is to go out there and win, showcase all my hard work, and leave it up to the fans and the coaches who make those decisions," he added. "I don’t know how much the media has in it. I know the voting has changed over the years, but my case is to go out there and help them win. From doing that, if outside people believe I should make it, I’ll be there.

"I do believe that I am an All-Star. I’ve always seen myself as that, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to work towards in my career."
