It is fair to say that Manchester City midfielder Rodri was not too impressed with Chelsea’s performance against his side on Sunday.
Chelsea have received a lot of praise following their 1-1 draw at the Etihad. With the club in turmoil following Enzo Maresca’s surprise departure last week, many were expecting the Blues to lose to Pep Guardiola’s team.
However, interim manager Calum McFarlane delivered a masterclass and guided Chelsea to a draw.

Rodri claims Chelsea scored from ‘nothing’
Rodri believes City should have won the game and has claimed that Chelsea managed to draw from “nothing”.
Speaking in a post-match interview, which has been shared by City’s official club website, the 29-year-old said: “We created enough chances to win the game three or four nil, but this is football. If you don’t take your chances with nothing they just draw the game.”
Rodri later went on to add: “First half was brilliant, enough to score three or four goals. In the second half we forgot a little bit how to play and they got control of the game, losing easy balls. Sometimes when you defend, defend, defend, they did not have much but they get a draw.”

It was another midfielder who gave City the lead, with Tijjani Reijnders scoring a brilliant goal towards the end of the first half.
However, Enzo Fernandez popped up in stoppage time to equalise and ensure that Chelsea left the Etihad with something.
The Blues’ game against Rodri’s side was a very interesting one following Maresca’s exit. During the match, Chelsea fans were heard chanting Roman Abramovich’s name, clearly frustrated with the club’s current ownership.

Stats suggest Rodri is wrong
It is really hard to agree with Rodri, as Chelsea had multiple opportunities to score another goal on Sunday. For example, Pedro Neto wasted a glorious opportunity during the match.
In the end, Chelsea finished the game with an xG of 1.85 and three big chances created, according to Sofascore. In contrast, City’s xG was only 1.02, while they also failed to create a single big chance during the 90 minutes.
Honestly, Rodri sounds a bit bitter, which you can understand. City are fighting for the Premier League title and slipped up in the final minutes of the game, losing ground on leaders Arsenal as a result.
