Cody Gakpo will be disappointed not to have scored the late winner for Liverpool at Fulham, but at least he got the top average rating!
The Reds were deprived of a dramatic victory at Craven Cottage on Sunday, with Harrison Reed’s incredible strike earning Fulham a 2-2 draw.
Here we compare our player ratings with those of the Liverpool Echo, GOAL and the TIA readers.
Gakpo (6.45) scored highest for Liverpool, coming agonisingly close to earning his side an ugly three points.
It was far from a stellar performance from the Dutchman, but Ian Doyle of the Echo said he offered a “focal point to the attack” and also grew into the game.
Still, This Is Anfield‘s readers still only gave him a 4.8 rating, which speaks volumes about Liverpool’s display.

Florian Wirtz (6.40) was also on the scoresheet for the champions, but like Gakpo, he has played far better.
Doyle still felt he was “too peripheral” at times, while TIA’s Danny Gallagher claimed he “won’t have enjoyed this gritty afternoon playing in a team with all the fluidity of lead.”
Alexis Mac Allister (4.83) got the worst overall rating for Liverpool, as his below-par season continues.
What the stats say
Gakpo and Wirtz were also Liverpool’s best player statistically, according to FotMob, boosted by their respective goals.
No player had more shots (five) and touches inside the opposition box (eight) than the No. 18, highlighting that he was at least a nuisance.
Wirtz may have scored and made seven defensive contributions, but he also won just 17 percent of his ground duels (1/6).
Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch failed to dominate the midfield battle, losing five (2/7) and four (3/7) duels respectively – the third and fourth-most for Liverpool.
