Chelsea have spent a lot of money in recent seasons on emerging talent, could they spent a lot on one world-class star?

Chelsea’s recruitment strategy is one that plays the odds, that relies on a few gems emerging from the dozens of rough diamonds that have been bought.

There has been no shortage of money spent in recent seasons and loftier trophies than the Club World Cup and Europa Conference League will be sought by those behind the master plan.

The Blues’ starting XI is more than strong enough to compete at the sharp end of the Premier League table. Individuals like Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo would walk into most teams at Europe’s top table.

They weren’t world class when they were signed, but Chelsea have been linked with a player who regularly featured in podium numbers for the Ballon d’Or.

Chelsea make £131m offer for Vinicius Jnr

A £130m offer from Chelsea for Morgan Rogers has been reported and Aston Villa’s financial situation could see one of Palmer’s competitors for a place in England’s starting XI arrive at Stamford Bridge. They would be capable of playing in the same team with a subtle tactical tweak or by moving Palmer out to the flank, however, his sizeable talents would be somewhat blunted away from the middle of the park where he does most of his damage.

What would be even more exciting is if Chelsea pulled of the sort of heist being reported by Fichajes. The World Champions have been linked with Vinicius Jnr to strengthen their forward line in what would be a huge step out from the current recruitment strategy. Not only is a £131m bid being claimed as being made for the Brazilian, but the 202-goal and assist Galactico would also be on the sort of wages that they have been trying to move away from.

This isn’t the first time that Vini Jnr has been linked with Chelsea, with Fabrizio Romano explaining, in no uncertain terms, whether or not the Real Madrid talisman would be strutting his stuff wearing blue in the Premier League anytime soon.

Is Vinicius Jnr on his way to Chelsea?

Romano said on his YouTube channel in November: “I wanted to talk with you guys about Chelsea because we had reports from Brazil about Rodrygo and I told you, ‘No, this deal is not true. There are no talks, no conversations’. From what I’m told, Rodrygo is not even on the list at Chelsea. So at the moment there is absolutely zero in these reports on Rodrygo and Chelsea.

“From Spain in recent days, we also saw links between Vinicius Jnr and Chelsea. Some links in Spain, some reports in Spain, saying that Vini is probably one of the players being considered by Chelsea in case he decides to leave Real Madrid.

“Guys, what I can tell you is that also in this case, similar to Rodrygo, for a reason that is not the quality of these players – it’s not about liking or not liking players like Rodrygo or Vinicius as these are fantastic players – but Chelsea are going in a different direction.

“Chelsea are going in that direction. Talented players, of course, also important players ready to make an impact, but opportunities. In the case of these names, the salaries, the cost of the eventual deals would be massive. Chelsea are going in a different direction.”

As seen with the exit of Maresca, Chelsea aren’t going to be changing course any time soon.
