Arsenal don’t have much room in their squad for new additions, but could a Galactico be on his way to The Emirates?

Mikel Arteta has every right to be content with Arsenal proving that they are a different team to the one that has just fallen short in recent years.

The Gunners have shown that they can win dirty, that they can triumph in adversity and that, with a fully fit squad, that they have the sort of depth that could be the difference when the Premier League trophy is handed out in May.

There will be twists and turns between now and the end of the season, with who recruits the best in January potentially being the difference between winning the league or coming an agonising second once again.

Arsenal considering offer for Rodrygo

Arteta spent wisely in the summer and finally has the options that he needs to go the distance. What Arsenal will be looking for now are players who can improve the starting XI.

With Arsenal reported to be ‘preparing an offer’ for Rodrygo at Real Madrid, there can’t be any accusations of The Emirates recruitment team aiming anything other than for the best. With Bukayo Saka on the right, Rodrygo would offer genuine balance on the left, even if Leandro Trossard is enjoying one of his best seasons in red and white.

As seen against Bournemouth for one of Declan Rice’s goals, Viktor Gyokeres might not be enjoying his best goalscoring form, but he is still causing problems and occupying defenders. He dragged four away from the edge of the box to give Rice the space to get his shot off. It is this quality that Rodrygo, who excels in making runs in behind defences, could benefit from if Arsenal put their money where their mouth is and pull off the sort of signing that could propel them to the title.

Is Rodrygo heading to The Emirates in January?

Rodrygo has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeau almost since Kyllian Mbappe was signed but it is looking increasingly likely that his time at Los Blancos is coming to an end with Fabrizio Romano confirming when the Brazil international could be on his way.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Rodrygo will not leave Real Madrid in January. That’s 100 per cent guaranteed, 100 per cent decided already between the player, his agents, Xabi Alonso. Xabi is very happy with Rodrygo, especially in the last two months. The attitude, the level of Rodrygo has completely changed.

“In the summer, we will see what happens, but at the moment still nothing is planned or prepared. Last summer, the club that really tried this possibility was Man City, but then Savinho didn’t end up leaving. Also PSG were tracking Rodrygo, but only in case [Bradley] Barcola left.

“It depends on how the second half of the season will go. There is a World Cup coming for Brazil. We know that with Carlo Ancelotti, the connection is very good. He’s a really important player.”
