How Arne Slot's Liverpool record compares with Ruben Amorim as Man United decide enough is enough

The heat on Arne Slot at Liverpool turned up a degree or two on Monday morning as Manchester United parted company with Ruben Amorim.

At a distance, the fates of the two managers have nothing to do with each other. Their clubs are in very different stages and the two men are taking charge of completely separate scenarios.

However, there is no denying that a big portion of the Liverpool fanbase would be happy to see Slot relieved of his duties as soon as possible.

Why won’t Liverpool follow Man United’s lead and SACK Arne Slot?

With United sitting only three points and two positions behind the Reds in the Premier League table, Amorim‘s dismissal will only serve to entrench those supporters in their view.

After missing out on the Liverpool job, Amorim ultimately lasted only 14 months at Old Trafford. And as he says his goodbyes, his record while at the helm makes for interesting reading in relation to Slot.

Ruben Amorim has a far worse record than Arne Slot

It may not feel like it, but there is actually very little to compare Amorim and Slot in terms of overall record with their respective clubs.

The Portuguese only took charge of 63 matches for the Red Devils, winning just 25 of those.

With 15 draws and 23 defeats thrown in, Amorim posted a win percentage of only 40% at Man United. It is no wonder he was sacked.

As for Slot, prior to this season his record at Liverpool was virtually untouchable. A bad period in October and November has sullied that somewhat, but even then, he is much better placed than Amorim.

Having taken charge five months earlier than the 40-year-old, Slot has been on the touchline for 22 additional matches at Liverpool.

Played 85, won 53, drawn 13 and lost 19 is the record of the current Liverpool head coach, leading to a win percentage of 62%.

Slot’s Premier League title win gives him credit in the bank

For those asking why Liverpool will not match United – and Chelsea – and begin their search for a new manager, this record should go some way to answering that.

But at the end of the day, the biggest reason for Liverpool sticking with Slot while their rivals fail to do the same is bleedingly obvious: he won the Premier League last season.

Had Slot led Liverpool to 16th, like Amorim, or fallen out with the owners, like Enzo Maresca, then perhaps he would be joining them in collecting his P45 this New Year.

But the fact remains that Slot cakewalked the Premier League at the first time of asking and that, more than any other reason, means he deserves more time to put things right.

The clamour for Liverpool to swing their own axe will no doubt be bigger than ever in the coming days, but it is highly unlikely they will.
