RC Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior is reportedly expected to take charge as the new Chelsea boss this week.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liam Rosenior is all set to become the new Chelsea manager this week. Following the sacking of Enzo Maresca, BlueCo have decided to appoint the Englishman as their new boss, having seen him up close at their French club, RC Strasbourg.
Maresca did wonders for the West London club after taking charge back in 2024. Not only did he secure UEFA Champions League football, but he also won the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup in his first season in charge.
Everything was on track for the Italian manager in his second season as well. They were on course to challenge for all major titles until the end of November. However, things completely changed in December as they went through a rough patch.
Mareca’s cryptic comments during press conferences did not help either. Since the relationship between the owners and the manager completely broke down, the BluesCo eventually decided to sack him at the start of the new year.
Rosenior is ready to take charge at Chelsea
While Chelsea did look at potential options to replace him, Liam Rosenior has been on their radar as a potential successor since he took charge at Strasbourg. When they handed him a new deal back in April, the owners made it clear that he would succeed Maresca at Chelsea in the long run.
While neither party expected it to happen this season, the Italian tactician’s untimely dismissal has forced them to bring Liam Rosenior to London. Following the Ligue 1 outfit’s match against Nice on Saturday, they held talks with the 41-year-old, who reportedly gave the green light to the move.
The Englishman has been their top target from the start, and they are glad that he is ready to be on the Stamford Bridge bench. The Blues consider him an ideal fit for their project, as he is already aware of how things work under their ownership. Given the kind of work he has done with young players at Strasbourg, he could certainly lead a very talented Chelsea squad.
Rosenior has already arrived in West London ahead of his appointment. The 41-year-old is set to take an interview for the job, which seems like a mere formality, and he is expected to take charge of the London club this week.
