Liverpool supporters have fallen in love with Federico Chiesa despite an underwhelming 18 month stay at the club.
The Italian was brought in as Arne Slot’s first ever signing with the Reds, but has never fully won the trust of the head coach.
To many, it was a surprise to see Chiesa stay beyond the summer transfer window, having felt destined to leave after making only six Premier League appearances last term.

The 28-year-old has fared better this season, but still has only one Premier League start to his name in 2025/26.
As a result, there have been growing suggestions that Chiesa could leave Liverpool during the ongoing January transfer window. But after journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed Liverpool have been in touch with Juventus over a transfer, Merseyside-based reporter James Pearce has strongly refuted the claims.
Given the lack of attacking options Slot currently has at his disposal, it would feel like insanity to let Chiesa leave.
Nevertheless, speaking on his Italian language YouTube channel on Monday, that’s exactly what Romano suggested could happen.

“The name we’re confidently suggesting to you is Federico Chiesa, because Juventus have met with Liverpool and the player’s agents,” said the transfer expert.
“Juventus have confirmed this interest and they feel that Chiesa would like to return to Juventus. This doesn’t mean that Chiesa is breaking up with Liverpool today at the beginning of January. He didn’t go to Liverpool and say ‘let me go to Juventus.’ However, there is positive feedback from Chiesa. He is a name that Juventus like a lot and the player could willingly return.
“The real crux of this story remains Liverpool and what they want to do. They will have to decide whether to keep Chiesa or let him go.”

According to Pearce, Liverpool’s stance is that their No. 14 is ‘an important member of the squad’, and that they have not been in touch with Juventus in any way, shape or form over his sale.
“Liverpool have had no contact, either formal or informal, from Juventus regarding Federico Chiesa,” Pearce wrote on X. “The Italian forward regarded as an important member of the squad – has featured in last five matches.”
Chiesa could leave Liverpool – on one condition
In the current state of the Liverpool squad there is simply no way Chiesa could be allowed to leave.
The Italy international is indeed an important member of the group, even if it does not feel that way at times.
Having made only 14 appearances in total during his debut campaign at Anfield, Chiesa has 20 played times for Liverpool this term. He has only failed to feature in nine games.
Granted, it is not enough for a player who could start week-on-week for plenty of teams across Europe’s top five leagues, but it does underline that he is important to Slot right now.
The one condition in which Chiesa should be allowed to go is if Liverpool manage to sign a forward player ahead of his exit. If that happens, and Slot has another option at his disposal, only then should this conversation with Juventus be taken seriously.
