Liverpool’s January transfer window has started quietly, with minimal activity in terms of major signings or departures. However, there have been a few developments involving youth-team players.
On Sunday, it was reported that Owen Beck’s short-term loan to Derby County was cut short following a disappointing spell in the East Midlands. At first-team level, Liverpool’s search for a centre-back remains the main focus.
The Reds continue to be linked with Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez, while 17-year-old Ifeanyi Ndukwe has also reportedly caught the club’s attention. Despite these links, there is no certainty that Liverpool will make a defensive signing, particularly after a major summer outlay on new recruits.
In addition to defensive targets, players such as Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and even Real Madrid’s Rodrygo have been mentioned in recent transfer gossip. On the outgoing side, Harvey Elliott’s future remains uncertain after Aston Villa manager Unai Emery indicated that the winger does not have a future at the club.
Federico Chiesa is also linked with a potential return to Italy. According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have intensified their interest in the 28-year-old, who has made 34 appearances for Liverpool this season, scoring four goals.
“Juventus made formal contact to show interest in Federico Chiesa over possible return in January,” Romano wrote on X. “Juve are looking to add +1 winger this month and Chiesa is appreciated. Decision up to Liverpool and the player, still early stages.”
Chiesa, who spent four years in Turin before joining Liverpool in August 2024, has struggled to secure regular starts under Arne Slot. His exit became increasingly likely after being left out of Thiago Motta’s squad and failing to agree on a new contract with the club.
Romano has also provided the latest update on Chiesa’s future, revealing that the Italian winger is now open to a return to Juventus this January. He posted on X: “Chiesa would be open to Juventus return this month, but deal depends on Liverpool. Formula/conditions of the deal will be key with Juve keen, up to #LFC.”
