Liverpool have been handed a blow to their hopes of signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. The Reds have been heavily linked with signing Guehi ever since the summer and those links have continued into the January transfer window.
Arne Slot's side were forced to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage last time out. Cody Gakpo's stoppage time goal appeared to be enough for Liverpool to claim a victory in west London, only for a last-minute Harrison Reed strike to rescue a point for the home side.
With the January transfer window now open, it presents an opportunity for Liverpool and other Premier League clubs to bolster their squads with new signings if they so choose.
Whether Liverpool will try and sign Guehi once again remains to be seen, having had a £35million deal fall through at the eleventh hour on deadline day even though the move was initially agreed with Palace.
Now, it seems that the Reds will face competition for Guehi's signature over the next couple of weeks.
BBC Sport report that Manchester City have shown interest in Guehi. Though the club have not yet approached the Eagles, they are said to be intensifying their interest due to recent injury setbacks.
Man City's draw with Chelsea on Sunday resulted in injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol. Both players were forced off the pitch during the second half in Manchester, leaving Pep Guardiola's side with Nathan Ake and Abdukodir Khusanov as the centre-back duo that finished the match.
The Reds have been forced to deal with several injury blows of their own during the season so far, including at centre-back. Giovanni Leoni is expected to be ruled out for the remainder of the season after the summer signing suffered a knee injury on his debut back in September.
Joe Gomez has also spent time on the sidelines with injury this season, which has often left Liverpool with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as the only senior central defenders available.
