Milwaukee Bucks fans distraught over team’s leadership announcement

Peter Feigin is ending a successful 12-year run as head of business operations for the Milwaukee Bucks, as part of the agreement among the team’s ownership group, which sees its members take turns in the role. During his time leading the Bucks, Milwaukee transitioned from the Bradley Center to Fiserv Forum, developed a consistently competitive team around star Giannis Antetokounmpo, and own the franchise’s first NBA Championship in 50 years.

With Feigin stepping down, John Glessing, who is the head of Haslam Sports Group, will be taking over the role. Jimmy Haslam, who also owns the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, also is a significant stake-holder in the Bucks.

Milwaukee Bucks fans fear the worst without Peter Feigin

Part of the statement released by Feigin and the Bucks read, “Serving as President of the Milwaukee Bucks has been the honor of my professional life. Together with our ownership group, partners, players, and an incredible staff, we built something truly special for this city and state. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished and confident that the organization is in tremendous shape.”

But the announcement that Glessing, in conjunction with Haslam, will be taking over did not sit well with many fans:

Haslam slowing tearing down all the things that made this organization a top 5 org in the league for a decade. https://t.co/HE5tF6u67P

Busy day in Wisconsin!

Being part of the Haslam Group: Not great

Being a Wisconsinite: Actually good

I don’t take him as a pure outsider. I am concerned that the HSG is sinking their claws in more though https://t.co/kMqarv0pG5

One of Haslam’s guys is taking over. This is probably bad. https://t.co/FfdvplZQFx

Well, this sucks. Replacing a guy who is really tight with Giannis with a Haslam guy https://t.co/jytjL8rgP7

It is worth noting, though, that Glessing is himself a Wisconsin native and life-long Bucks fan.

“I was born a Bucks fan and I don’t need to learn what this team means to Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin. I have known it my entire life,” Glessing wrote in the release. “The Bucks have an exceptional foundation, and I look forward to continuing to build on our success while staying true to our commitment to winning, providing best-in-class experiences for our fans, and delivering meaningful impact for the community.”
