Report: Liverpool ready to sack Arne Slot this week

Arne Slot’s second season with Liverpool hasn’t gone to plan and, according to one report, it will soon be over.

Liverpool’s defence of the Premier League title was over by mid-November, and the Reds’ look like a team without direction.

After enduring one of the wort runs in the club’s history, losing nine in a 12-game run, Slot appeared to have turned things around but recent performances have once again been disappointing.

Liverpool’s main competitors for fourth in the league, Manchester United and Chelsea, both parted ways with their managers in the past week and now Liverpool could follow suit.

Slot to be sacked by Liverpool

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool have taken the decision to sack Slot and the Dutchman will not continue in his position beyond the end of the week.

The report states that the club have begun the process of replacing the head coach, and want to appoint someone who can turn the team’s season around.

This report follows an earlier claim by MatchDay Central on X that Slot will be relieved of his duties by the end of the week.

It is important to note that no English media outlets are reporting Liverpool have decided to sack their head coach, and there has been no indication from the club that the dismissal is imminent.

Who could replace Arne Slot?

One of the most spoken about options for Liverpool should they choose to move on from Slot is Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who most recently managed Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.

Gerrard is currently available and could come in on a short-term basis whilst Liverpool assess their options.

Jurgen Klopp has also been touted for a potential return if Slot goes, a prospect that will no doubt excite many supporters.

Xabi Alonso was widely considered the favourite for the Liverpool job earlier in the season when Slot’s job was under pressure, but the Spaniard has steadied the ship at Real Madrid and doesn’t look available now.

If the decision has been made to move on from Arne Slot then Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes will be assessing a whole host of options, and it won’t be long before Liverpool have their new boss.
