Arsenal continue their Premier League title push at home to Liverpool on Thursday, hosting the reigning champions at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta’s side sit six points clear at the top after 20 games.
Manchester City can close the gap when they face Brighton on Wednesday night. Liverpool, meanwhile, are fourth and trail the leaders by 14 points.
The Reds won the reverse fixture at Anfield in August thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick and have lost just once in their last seven meetings with Arsenal.
Arsenal remain without Max Dowman, Cristhian Mosquera and Riccardo Calafiori through injury, with the latter two not expected back until mid-January.
Liverpool are hopeful Hugo Ekitike will return after a hamstring issue. “Yes, he travelled because he felt something during the training session,” Slot said after the draw at Fulham. “He felt something during the MRI scan and we got the results when we were flying.
“We were hoping it was a bit of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), which he also had. “Why? Because Alex Isak has been out and since Alex has been out, he doesn’t play 60 or 70 minutes and sometimes gets a bit of rest.
“He has to play 80 or 90 minutes every single game for the first time in his life without a winter break and for the first time, at Champions League level.
“It’s not a big surprise he gets a bit of DOMS. We were hoping it would be DOMS and we could have used him as a sub but, unfortunately, we saw a bit more and couldn’t take a risk.”
Wataru Endo and Mohamed Salah are unavailable, while Alexander Isak and Giovanni Leoni remain long-term absentees. The highly anticipated game will kick off at 8pm.
