Why Donovan Mitchell won't play against Pacers? Cavaliers release key update

The Cavs are giving Mitchell a rest on their upcoming road matchup against the Pacers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have opted to keep their franchise superstar for a needed break.

Approaching their Tuesday road matchup against the Indiana Pacers, the Cavs have announced that Donovan Mitchell (rest) won't be playing.

Meanwhile, Dean Wade (knee) and Jarrett Allen (illness) are marked as questionable.

This would mark the fourth absence of Mitchell for the Cavaliers this season. As such, their decision to shut him down is logical considering the Pacers' status as one of the worst teams in the NBA with a Conference-worst 6-30 record.

In his fourth season in Cleveland, Mitchell is averaging a career-high 29.8 points in 49.7 percent shooting along with 5.4 dimes and 4.7 rebounds. With his looming absence, Sam Merrill and Craig Porter are set to obtain increased minutes.

The Cavs (20-17) will aim to return to the win column after last Sunday's 114-110 loss against the Detroit Pistons. They are currently 1.5 games away from the East's 4th seed.
