INDIANAPOLIS — Despite traveling with the team on this two-game road trip, Cavs star Donovan Mitchell will not play in the first matchup — Tuesday night against the Indiana Pacers.
Mitchell has been ruled out because of rest. It will be his fourth missed game this season.
Along with Mitchell, Cleveland will also be without reserve forward Larry Nance Jr. (calf) and Max Strus (foot surgery). Starters Jarrett Allen (illness) and Dean Wade (knee soreness) are both listed as questionable.
The Cavs are currently in a stretch where they play every other day for the next two weeks. Because of that, coach Kenny Atkinson recently hinted that the team would look for rest-night opportunities to make the schedule more manageable, staying in line with their big-picture approach.
Mitchell may not be the only rotational player who gets a rest night at some point in the next two weeks.
In 34 games, Mitchell is averaging a team-high 29.8 points, 5.4 assists and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 49.7% from the field and 38.8% from 3-point range.
