Report: Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks now working on a trade

Both sides are now reportedly working on a trade already since over last week.

Trae Young and his agents, Aaron Mintz, Drew Morrison and Austin Brown, are now working with the Atlanta Hawks on a trade, sources told Shams Charania of ESPN.

As such, collaborative talks have started over the last week on finding a resolution.

According to Charania, both sides have maintained positive dialogue regarding Young's future over the last couple of months since the Hawks didn't give the star point guard a contract extension. Young is earning $46 million this season and holds a $49 million player option for 2026-27.

The current 2025-26 season marks the eighth outing of Young as a Hawk. He mainly struggled with injuries and inconsistencies, averaging just 19.3 points on over 41 percent shooting and 8.9 assists in 10 games.

Chosen as the No. 5 overall pick of the 2018 Draft, Young was notably dealt to the Hawks alongside a 2019 first-round pick (Cam Reddish) by the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic. He mainly served as the franchise's centerpiece, leading the Hawks to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals.

Since then, both Young and the Hawks have relatively underachieved and couldn't get over the hump. They only made two first-round appearances over the next five seasons.
